——————-

Step 1. Unpack and plug in the power

Whether you have received a Laptop or desktop PC, the basics of unpacking is simple.

If you have a desktop PC set up your PC case, plug in the monitor with the cord supplied, and plug in the power cord. It is recommended that you plug the power cords of both the PC case and the monitor into an electrical surge protector.

Hold on to the boxes and packing material in case you must return something that is faulty.

Step 2. Plug in the mouse (and keyboard if it is a desktop computer)

Step 3. Press the start or power-on button.

If you have a brand name desktop kit or laptop like Lenovo, HP, Dell or similar, just wait for the installation to begin. If not:

Step 4. Insert your Windows CD/DVD.

The setup program will prompt you to start a setup, just follow the instructions, it is very easy. At this time have your wireless password at hand as you will be asked for it.

Step 5. Install Windows

Windows will start and restart several times, while asking you some questions like which country you are in and what time zone etc. Here is a good guide to installing windows step by step.

Follow the on-screen setup instructions. Once Windows 10 has been installed on your computer, you’ll be able to customize its settings (e.g., your region, your preferred language, location settings, etc.). Once you finish this process, you will be taken to your computer’s desktop.

You can also click Express Settings to set up Windows 10 with the recommended settings.

Step 6. Connect to the internet

The setup program for Windows will ask you for your wireless password after identifying nearby wireless networks. Just choose your network and enter the password. If you do not have wireless, just plug in your router cable or skip this part. We must warn you though that windows will want to verify that you have a valid license via internet. Also, the Windows experience is lessened by not having an internet connection.

Step 7. Do the latest Windows updates. The installation will ask if you want to do so. Let the installation update your Windows files. This will take some time, just be patient.

Step 8. Install PC-Decrapifyier and clean up all bloatware (unnecessary — or even harmful – software).

Step 9. Install your choice of an Office suite.

You can install Microsoft Office or one of the free suites we recommend in our article at:

The two best free suites to replace Microsoft Office, we look at and recommend are:

LibreOffice is a powerful and free office suite, used by millions of people around the world. It has a clean interface and feature-rich tools to help you unlock your creativity and improve your productivity.

Kingsoft’s offers the WPS Office 2016. It delivers the most Office-like experience of all the suites. WPS is constructed with its own varieties of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, WPS has outstanding compatibility with all the Microsoft Office formats and it has a customizable interface that can be personalized to your own preference for either the newer modern version of Office ribbon toolbar look or the older static menus of Office 2003.

Step 10. Install your choice of an email program.

You can install Microsoft Outlook that comes with most versions of Microsoft Office or one of the free emailers we recommend in our article at:

  1. Mail & Calendar (Windows 10 Mail and Calendar – Windows 10 built in app.)

With Mail & Calendar app in Windows 10, you don’t need to go to the trouble of setting up and get your program running. Without promoting Windows, we must admit that this is probably, the best free email client, the Mail app comes pre-installed with Windows 10. Mail is the free alternative to Microsoft Outlook that’s bundled with Microsoft Office.

  1. Mailbird

In our opinion, the best email client for Windows made by a third party is Mailbird.

Mailbird is laden with many features. You can easily manage your multiple email accounts in this program. It doesn’t matter what email provider you use, Mailbird can connect to it and dish up your email in the combined inbox called Unified inbox. It includes a dark theme and many different backgrounds in its appearance options. You can choose between the default and a Mozilla Thunderbird style layout, which we do not recommend.

  1. Mozilla Thunderbird

This great old open source mailer, Mozilla Thunderbird is still among the top-rated email programs for Windows 10. It is somewhat ugly, and clunky to use, but the free email software packs enough muscle to compete against other Windows email software if you are prepared for the steeper learning curve.

Once you have installed all these programs, we recommend you take the following Cyber-Minds courses:
